Joyent Sells Strongspace and Bingodisk to ExpanDrive

Joyent was one of the first companies to offer storage as Strongspace (Summer, 2005). Strongspace was a multi-user SFTP drive in the sky. A piece of trivia: Strongspace was the first product to use ZFS in production (ouside of Sun). We introduced Bingodisk in the Fall of 2006 to provide dead-simple WebDAV-based storage. It was one of the first products to use Sun's ground-breaking "Thumper" product. As Joyent has grown, we've been pulling back from pure consumer offerings to focus more on our infrastructure offerings. We deliver nearly 10 billion pages for customers every month, and while our infrastructure business is booming, we would never leave any of our customers behind. We needed to find a way to continue to support Strongspace and Bingodisk while emphasizing our focus on Joyent Accelerators and Joyent Smart. And we think we did. We're excited to announce that Joyent has sold Bingodisk and Strongspace to ExpanDrive - providers of "Ridiculously Simple Online Storage". We're confident that with ExpanDrive our Strongspace and Bingodisk customers will experience an increased focus and enhanced customer service, in short, they'll be happier with the service ExpandDrive can offer. We've known the folks at ExpanDrive for a long time now, and we're sure that they will provide you all with a great service, but in the meantime, we'd like to take the opportunity to thank each of you for your support over the years - you've all been a part of something we're very proud of. We collaborated with ExpanDrive to bring you the SFTPDrive + Strongspace combination a couple years back. We also collaborated with ExpanDrive on developing Slingshot (Joyent's off-line environment for Rails, quickly validated by the introduction and shipping of Adobe Air, Microsoft Silverlight, and Google Gears). We've been collaborating with ExpanDrive on the next version of Strongspace, and we think you're going to love it.Strongspace and Bingodisk customers start to migrate to ExpanDrive starting August 17th. Strongspace and Bingodisk customers will hear directly from ExpranDrive regarding migration details, shortly.Oh, and if you're a lifetime customer we've not forgotten about you! Joyent will continue to pay for your service (for life!), but you must remember to opt-in to ExpanDrive! Thanks to all the loyal Strongspace and Bingodisk customers. We appreciate your business.
